Our Meetings

The Papworth Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group was established to provide information, support and the opportunity for people living with pulmonary fibrosis, their family and friends in welcoming and social surroundings.

The meetings are free to attend and patients, carers, relatives and friends are all welcome.

When & Where?

Face-to-face meetings are held every two months, usually on the second Friday of the month.

Meetings start at 13:30 and typically last 1.5 hours. Light refreshments (tea/coffee and cake) are available during the meeting.

Meetings are held at:

David Rayner Centre, Scotsdales Garden Centre, Great Shelford, Cambridge, CB22 5JT

Free parking is available directly adjacent to the venue in the garden centre carpark. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible. The centre is a large, welll-ventiliated space for social distancing.

Online meetings are held on alternative months to the face-to-face meetings. We hold patient only meeting run by patients, and a Family, friends and carers meeting run by carers.

See our Events page for dates and times.

Community

Attending Support Group meetings is a fantastic way to meet a warm and friendly collection of people experiencing a similar journey.

As well as topics related to living with pulmonary fibrosis, more light hearted activities are included at some meetings. Sufficient time is always allowed for members to chat together, as this sharing of experience and mutual support is found to be highly valued by all.

Friends and family members are encouraged to join us too and will benefit from the support and experience of other carers.

By offering a range of different meeting formats and times we aim to make support accessible to all.

Practical Information

Our meetings are a great opportunity to learn about the type of services and help available, with speakers ranging from healthcare professionals, oxygen suppliers, charities, governmental departments, and pharmaceutical companies to name a few.

Lots of useful and practical personal advice can also be gained from chatting with other members around issues such as managing symptoms and side effects of medication.

We are fortunate to have the support of the Doctors and Specialist Respiratory Nurses from the joint ILD service at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Royal Papworth Hospital, who regularly join the general meetings.

..and more

In addition to the regular Support Group meetings we organise other social events throughout the year, such as informal coffee mornings, boat trips, and picnics.

There are also opportunities to participate in information days organised in partnership with the Royal Papworth Hospital and Pulmonary Fibrosis charities.
